Suddenly, you see a rainbow, hear your dad’s favorite song, meet a stranger wearing your university team's shirt (in a foreign country), see a license plate with a message, or experience a physical symptoms you can't ignore.
I ignored symptoms, as most educators do, focusing on work, children and home. Self-care wasn't a thing at that time. Women, especially, just pushed through, multi-tasked, and juggled obligations. Then I had my surrender event (more on author page).
As a female professor, I traveled solo while attending conferences and directing study abroad programs. Strangers wondered why I wasn't with my family. I shared how I received a second chance at life, and my reasons for living fully, based on my own ‘push off the cliff moment.’
I noticed how they paused to reflect, nod, and even tear up, when I asked, "When Did God Get Your Attention?' Their voices quivered, there were audible sighs, and stories depicted close calls, 11th hour events, and connections with strangers that transcended time, culture, age, gender, beliefs, religious upbringing, geography, social class, and, education.
Conversations were authentic, spontaneous, and confirmed a universal belief that Divine Intervention occurred through an unexplainable Presence, often accompanied by a "gut feeling' to take action, or to surrender to a Higher Power.
We shared hugs, contact information, and gratitude.
HOW DOES GOD GET YOUR ATTENTION?
GOD gets my attention through license plates that seem to appear in front of me in a parking lot or when stopped in traffic. They are specific to what's concerning me, and tend to offer uplifting messages. What message is God sending you? Why is it meaningful?
